Jen Hugunin

My name is Jennifer Hugunin. I was born and raised in a small town in Eastern Iowa where I still reside and work as a personal trainer. Although, I have always been active and considered myself healthy, it wasn’t until a life changing incident that I began to take a closer look at health and wellness.

I was half way through my second pregnancy when I was involved in a terrible car crash that sent me in to pre-term labor. I was told if born so early in my pregnancy, my child would have about a 40% chance of survival and would likely be paralyzed, blind or may not survive at all. By the grace of God, the doctors were able to stop my contractions and I was released and put on strict bed rest for 20 WEEKS!

Being a very active individual, I couldn’t stand the thought of lying in bed for 5 months. I started to gain weight and felt horrible so I decided to call a dietitian to discuss nutrition. She came to my home and talked to me for hours. It was then that I fell in love with the idea of clean eating. I started making better food choices and soon felt a lot better. 6 weeks later, my son was born. It was on that day that I realized how truly precious life is and I vowed to never take health or loved ones for granted. I started working as a personal trainer and continued to eat healthy.

I competed for my first show in May of 2010 and to my surprise, won my division earning a NGA Pro Card. I had never even seen a bodybuilding competition and didn’t even know what a pro card was (I thought it was a credit card)!

Today, I live the incredible life that I used to dream of as a mother of two healthy children, a trainer to inspirational clients and as a bikini competitor. There is nothing I love more than being up on stage knowing that I have given all I got and listening to my family and fans cheer. My motto is: “There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.”  Thank you for allowing me to live my dream. Peace, love and sweat to all!
